General mixed width-integral of convex bodies
In this article, we introduce a new concept of general mixed width-integral of convex bodies, and establish some of its inequalities, such as isoperimetric inequality, Aleksandrov-Fenchel inequality, and cyclic inequality. We also consider the general width-integral of order i and show its related properties and inequalities. c ©2016 All rights reserved.
متن کاملCharacterizations of extremals for some functionals on convex bodies
We investigate equality cases in inequalities for Sylvester-type functionals. Namely, it was proven by Campi, Colesanti and Gronchi that the quantity ∫ x0∈K ... ∫ xn∈K [V (conv{x0, ..., xn})]dx0...dxn , n ≥ d, p ≥ 1 is maximized by triangles among all planar convex bodies K (parallelograms in the symmetric case). We show that these are the only maximizers, a fact proven by Giannopoulos for p = ...
متن کاملGeneralized convex functionals
This paper studies functionals defined by multiple integrals associated to differential forms on the jet bundle of first order corresponding to some Riemannian manifolds; the domain of these functionals consists in submanifold maps satisfying certain conditions of integrability. Our idea is to give geometric properties to the domain of a functional allowing us to properly define convexity. The ...
متن کاملeveryday physics of extended bodies or why functionals need analyzing
functionals were discovered and used by volterra over a century ago in his study of the motions of viscous elastic materials and electromagnetic fields. the need to precisely account for the qualitative effects of the cohesion and shape of the domains of these functionals was the major impetus to the development of the branch of mathematics known as topology, and today large numbers of mathemat...
متن کاملShadows of Convex Bodies
It is proved that if C is a convex body in R" then C has an affine image C (of nonzero volume) so that if P is any 1-codimensional orthogonal projection, \PC\>\C\{tt~l)/n. It is also shown that there is a pathological body, K , all of whose orthogonal projections have volume about \fh~ times as large as |Ä"| . 0. Introduction The problems discussed in this paper concern the areas of shadows (or...
